Job overview

The Directorate of Critical Care spans three units located at St Mary's, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. We are tertiary referral centres for multiple specialities including major trauma, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, oncology, hepatobiliary, renal and vascular surgery.

Within the Directorate, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced Critical Care nurse to join our dynamic and friendly Clinical Education team. The successful applicant will be based at Hammersmith Hospital ICU, but will be expected to participate in educational activities at all sites. The post holder should be a registered Nurse with a post registration qualification in Critical Care, educated to postgraduate diploma/degree level and hold a recognised teaching/assessing qualification (such as a mentorship (SSSA) qualification or above). The post holder will act as a clinical expert within their sphere of work, provide clinical coaching and support to staff and assist in the provision of education and training. The aim of the role is to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care contributing to improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers.

Main duties of the job
  • To maintain an effective educational environment through coaching and staff development, whilst working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team at large. Enabling and ensuring delivery of high quality, safe and effective care, thus improving the patients' experience.
  • To act as an expert practitioner, resource and role model to encourage evidence-based practice and provide support and supervision to all staff, including those on professional development courses.
  • To be responsible for the development of education and training programmes adapting them as necessary and achieving education and training targets.
  • To collaborate in the strategic development of the service.
  • The post holder will contribute to ensuring a conducive work environment and they will be a change agent with a strong professional and clinical focus.
