A prominent healthcare provider seeks a Senior Clinical Fellow in Anaesthetics for a position at Hammersmith Hospital. This role offers hands-on experience in various anaesthetic subspecialties, along with teaching and research opportunities. This is a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST4+ Equivalent) post in Anaesthesia based at Hammersmith Hospital. The position commences in February 2026 and lasts a minimum of six months in the first instance, extendable to one year based on satisfactory assessments. A minimum of 21 months of anaesthetic experience is required.
Thesis list allocations in theatre will allow the post holder to experience all anaesthetic subspecialties offered at Hammersmith Hospital under direct consultant supervision. Almost all operating lists are consultant‑delivered training lists.
In addition to elective theatre work, the post holder will cover the registrar rota for theatres when on call. The rota follows a full shift pattern with prospective cover and complies with the European Working Time Directive and the 2016 junior doctor contract.
Teaching takes place weekly, both face‑to‑face in the anaesthetic department and via MS Teams. The teaching has a cardiac focus but also covers the full range of clinical work encountered at Hammersmith Hospital, including topics covering the FRCA examination syllabus. Teaching is consultant‑supervised and delivered by both consultants and trainees.
A monthly journal club is also available.
The department includes several research‑active clinicians who conduct experimental studies and are chief/co‑investigators of large, multicentre trials across basic, translational, and clinical realms. Current research topics include anaesthesia for major general surgery, perioperative multi‑organ failure, postoperative pulmonary complications, acute kidney injury, patient blood management, and sepsis.

General anaesthetic duties include pre‑operative assessment, intra‑operative care, and post‑operative management of theatre cases.
The department operates a full shift rota compliant with the New Deal, EWTD, and 2016 junior doctor contract. The rota is 1:8 rolling, with 48 hours per week. Theatre working days are as follows:
Clinical governance is maintained through a strict programme supported by Dr F Plaat representing anaesthesia at Hammersmith Hospital.
Audits are conducted on a rolling basis; the post holder is expected to participate in the clinical audit programme.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: £41,750–£54,468 per annum + London Weighting +1A banding.
