Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3-5) - Anaesthetics & ITU

The closing date is 19 November 2025

The Anaesthetic department provides services to three sites - Worcestershire Royal Hospital (WRH), Alexandra Hospital Redditch (AHR), and Kidderminster Treatment Centre (KTC), encompassing all major specialities with a strong countywide working ethos. Recent surgical reconfiguration means most elective surgery will be delivered on the Alexandra Hospital site, while the majority of emergency, trauma and obstetric work will be on the WRH site. KTC functions as a day‑case and short‑stay surgical unit. Applicants will be required to contribute to the Theatres, Obstetric and WRH/Alex Intensive Care rotas.

All candidates must have completed 4 years full time equivalent postgraduate training, with at least 2 years in anaesthesia/ICM as per the standard Specialty Doctor terms and conditions.

The Anaesthetic department is renowned for providing a highly supportive working environment for both SAS doctors and postgraduate doctors in training, for whom we endeavour to provide the highest quality training opportunities. The successful applicant will be provided with a trust appraiser and an educational supervisor from within the anaesthetic department.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join a friendly and supportive directorate and will help to provide a wide range of both anaesthetic and critical care services, as well as enjoying the opportunity to pursue special interests outside of their clinical work. The directorate currently provides anaesthetic services in Worcester, Redditch and Kidderminster. Daytime work will largely be spent working on a range of both solo and consultant‑led theatre lists as well as in other areas such as critical care, obstetrics and preoperative assessment. Speciality lists include general surgery, vascular, urology, trauma & orthopaedics, head & neck and gynaecology.

The post‑holder is strongly encouraged to participate in personal development outside of the clinical workplace. The successful candidate will be offered allocated non‑clinical time, in accordance with the service needs of the department, to pursue their chosen interest. Special interests on offer in the department include Management, Clinical Governance, Teaching & Simulation and Quality Improvement (assisting with the department’s ACS Area accreditation process).

Out of hours responsibilities will rotate around both Worcester and Redditch. At both the Alexandra Hospital & Worcestershire Royal Hospital the out of hours resident staff cover is based on a 1 in 8 frequency request rota including prospective cover.

Duty Periods:

Night Shift: 19:30 – 08:30
