A leading healthcare institution in the UK is seeking trainees in transplantation, general surgery, or urology. This role offers extensive clinical exposure including patient diagnosis, ward rounds, and surgery. The postholder will develop both technical skills and an academic portfolio in a supportive environment. On-call and theatre commitments are included, making it ideal for those wishing to deepen their surgical knowledge.
This post would suit trainees wishing to pursue a career in transplantation, general surgery or urology. It provides an excellent opportunity to expand knowledge in pre‑ and post‑operative management of surgical patients in a busy transplant environment and to develop basic general surgical/vascular/urological technical skills. Those wishing to improve their academic portfolio will be supported to do so. The post will incorporate ward and on‑call commitments as well as theatre and outpatient commitments. There will be an opportunity to work on an audit or a quality improvement project. The post therefore suits individuals who wish to develop these areas, and also suits those who wish to work less than full time. The postholder will be supervised by a Transplant Surgery Consultant as well as the Transplant medical team with whom they will be working closely.
Clinical sessions will involve pre‑ and post‑operative assessment of dialysis access, transplant urology and general surgery patients.
The Department of Nephrology and Transplantation at Guy's is one of the largest in the UK, providing kidney care to South East London, neighbouring areas of Kent and the Channel Islands. In addition, we receive a significant number of complex referrals from a much wider geographical area. We provide a comprehensive range of services for this population, from management of mild kidney disease through to acute kidney injury (AKI) and the full range of modalities of renal replacement therapy. We perform around 300 transplants each year, have the largest living kidney donor programme in the country and are a supra‑regional centre for both combined kidney/pancreas and pancreas‑alone transplantation. We have the country's largest antibody‑incompatible transplant programme. We performed the first robotic transplants in the UK and have world‑class expertise in vascular access and transplant urology. We offer a full range of peritoneal and haemodialysis therapies both at home and through a network of satellite units. We are nationally recognised for quality of care, innovation in clinical practice and service delivery, and for our close functional and geographical integration with the research programmes of both the MRC Transplantation Centre and the Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre.
