Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in the UK is seeking a Specialist Registrar in Otolaryngology to join their team. The role involves assisting in high-quality ENT services, participating in teaching and research, and providing on-call cover. Ideal candidates should hold or be about to receive CCT in Otolaryngology and demonstrate excellent communication and clinical skills. This position is based primarily at St Thomas' Hospital with opportunities for advanced operative experience.

Qualifications

  • Specialist Registrar holding or about to be awarded CCT in Otolaryngology.
  • Intercollegiate exam in Otolaryngology or equivalent is essential.
  • Publications demonstrating interest in the field of Otolaryngology.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the provision of high‑quality ENT services to Trust patients, with a specific emphasis on otology ENT services and the development of the service.
  • Participate in clinical and other service activities to ensure high‑quality patient care and contribute to service developments.
  • Take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
  • Participate in research activities with the Department.
  • Help maintain the data collection of patients.
Otology and Auditory Implantation
  • Operative experience will include advanced otology (both adult and paediatric) and auditory implant surgery, including bone‑anchored, middle‑ear and cochlea implants.
  • Opportunity to be involved in a research programme within the Auditory Implant Centre.
  • Post is based at Guy's, St Thomas' and the Evelina Children’s Hospitals.
  • Provide non‑resident on‑call cover for the ENT department.
Otology and Skull Base
  • Work with the skull base units at Guy's, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and King's College Hospital.
  • Gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of skull‑base conditions.
  • Operative experience includes advanced otology and complex skull‑base surgery.
  • Participate in research programmes for skull‑base work.
  • Post is for a tenure of one year, primarily based at St Thomas' Hospital (including the Evelina Children’s Hospital); adult surgery takes place at Guy's Hospital.
  • On‑call duties include some off‑site emergency activity at King’s College Hospital.
Qualifications
  • Specialist Registrar holding or about to be awarded CCT (or equivalent) in Otolaryngology.
  • Intercollegiate exam in Otolaryngology or equivalent is essential.
  • Appropriate clinical and operative experience; all candidates must be on the GMC register and have MRCS Part 2 or equivalent.
  • UK candidates must have completed their Specialist training program prior to commencement of this post.
  • Publications demonstrating interest in the field and an ability to conduct and write up research.
  • Excellent communication skills, evidenced in the application form and interview.
