Job summary

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Intensive Care Unit. The post is based at Royal Preston Hospital with cross-cover at Chorley & South Ribble District General Hospital.

The unit has a 34-bed critical care facility admitting over 1300 patients annually and offers opportunities in teaching, research, and development across both sites. This role supports training and career progression within a large teaching hospital.

Qualifications

• Eligible for GMC registration and licence to practice.
• MBBS or equivalent, plus one year's internship.
• Minimum 3 years postgraduate training including DNB across all specialities.
• IELTS - average 7.5 (min 7 per subset) or OET (B)
• Evidence of research and/or publications.
• ALS/ATLS certification or equivalent.

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on a permanent basis. Your work within the Critical Care Unit at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust will be based at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) & you will also be expected to provide cross cover for our second site, Chorley & South Ribble District General Hospital (CDH).

There is a 34-beded critical care unit admitting over 1300 patients per year at Royal Preston Hospital, this is a mixed unit made up of level 2 & 3 beds. It has a varied case mix including General Medicine, General Surgery, Trauma, Vascular, Renal Neurosciences, Upper-Gastrointestinal and Maxillofacial Surgery.

There's also an Enhanced Care Unit at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital run by 21 Consultants with an interest in Intensive Care, along with junior support staff.

The unit at Preston has accreditations for all stages of Intensive Care Medicine training.

The Department has undergone a period of rapid expansion, which is reflected in the age and attitude of its career grade members.

Main duties of the job

• Specifically adopt, in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the critical care services for the Directorate.
• Provide a Critical Care service across the Trust,
• Participate in the trainee critical care rota on both hospital sites with additional cover during colleagues' absence.
• Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than fulltime and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.
• Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
• Exercise the freedom to develop specialist elements of the services to reflect perceived priorities within available resources.
• Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
• Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the theatre environment.
• Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the faculty of intensive care.

Essential

• Eligible for Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
• MBBS or equivalent
• Completed one year's internship (which can be multi-specialty) or based solely in one specialty.
• Minimum 3 years postgraduate training courses completed including one of the following: (delete those not relevant)
• Diplomate of national Board (DNB) across all specialities.
• Engaged in medical practice for three out of the last five years including the most recent 12 months.
• IELTS - average score 7.5 (min 7 in each subset) or OET (B score)

Experience and Skills

Essential

• Have a minimum 3 years post foundation Training experience in Anaesthesia/ICM/ Medicine/Emergency medicine with Mandatory 6 months of ICM experience
• Independent in insertion of Central Venous Catheters, Arterial Lines and perform Intubations.
• Independently manage acutely unwell patients in critical care and provide Various organ supports.
• Competent in independent airway Management.
• Evidence of commitment to Clinical audit.
• Experience in use of Ultrasound for central line insertion and perform ECHO in critical care.
• Involvement in service improvement projects
• Effective communication skills (with examples).
• Proven good organisation skills (with examples).
