Job Summary

Applications are invited for a full‑time Senior Clinical Fellow post in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have established leadership and team‑working qualities and will play an active role in the provision and delivery of healthcare for patients who need treatment for a wide range of non‑oncology conditions, including facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, salivary gland surgery, TMJ replacement surgery and reconstructive surgery for facial skin defects.

The department plays an active role in the Major Trauma Centre, so a main emphasis of the post will be the provision of Oral & Maxillofacial Trauma services both within and outside normal working hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a clinical service in conjunction with colleagues and under the direction of OMFS Consultants, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
  • Examine and treat new patients in the outpatient clinic and assist with review clinics; organise investigations and make treatment decisions independently, guided by appropriate consultants.
  • Manage surgical treatments within the OMFS outpatient clinic and day‑surgery unit, with clinical freedom subject to outcome review.
  • Give advice to hospital and primary‑care clinicians, respond to telephone calls and ward referrals, and be available to the Emergency Department for urgent cases.
  • Handle administrative duties related to patient care and assist with OMFS department administration as agreed.
  • Participate in risk management, clinical audit, and other governance activities; adhere to Caldicott Principles.
  • Engage in the Trust Appraisal Scheme to identify training and development needs, and pursue personal and professional development to meet Royal College or Competent Authority requirements in CME/CPD.

  • Essential – MBBS/BDS (or equivalent)
  • Desirable – MRCS or equivalent
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge and experience of maxillofacial emergencies, including fracture treatment, airway management and dento‑facial abscesses.
  • Competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate.
  • Evidence of participation in research and audit projects.
  • Desirable – Teaching the Teachers course and certificate.
Experience
  • Essential – Extensive experience in OMFS.
  • Desirable – ALS certification within 2 years, ATLS Certification.
