Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide a service in the specialty to designated hospitals.
  • Ensure proper functioning of the department according to policy.

Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine & CPHEM

We are looking for a motivated Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine And Community Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine to join our enthusiastic and expanding team in Cardiff.

This post is available from 5th August 2026 for 12 months and is not recognised for training.

This exciting new post is aimed at providing further experience in Major Trauma within a Major Trauma Centre, whilst working as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine within a busy tertiary Emergency Department. The job is designed to be an enjoyable, CV-enhancing post which will attract high calibre candidates.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a service in the specialty to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of accidents and acute emergencies.

You will have responsibility for the care of patients in your charge and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Department's Operational Policy.

You will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

The successful candidate will participate in a rota together with their other colleagues to ensure cover of the Emergency Unit at the University Hospital of Wales and Minor Injuries Unit.

The post holder will be part of a team of junior doctors supporting a 24-hour shop‑floor rota. Details of the working pattern of this post will be provided prior to taking up the appointment. It is anticipated that the banding will be at 1A.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
  • 12 months experience of working in Emergency Medicine in the UK as a middle grade (i.e. able to lead a department at night with remote supervision).
  • 4 years of post graduate experience in specialities relevant to emergency medicine
  • Some experience in Major Trauma, paediatrics, intensive care, anaesthesia, acute medicine.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE , ABILITIES
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical and legal topics with patients and colleagues
  • Evidence of recent quality improvement projects or audit.
  • Up to date with current medical practices

ADDITIONAL CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
  • Advanced resuscitation skills
  • Able to manage the Emergency Department with remote supervision
  • USS for eFAST, ELS, line placement (within the scope of RCEM guidance)
