Senior Clinical Fellow – Adult Emergency Medicine (12‑month)

Leeds Testing Hospitals NHS Trust is offering a 12‑month Senior Clinical Fellow (SCF) post in our adult Emergency Departments. These posts provide a balance of clinical and non‑clinical time (60% clinical, 40% non‑clinical) and are designed for trainees who want to develop a special interest in education while working in a large teaching hospital and major trauma centre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care across both adult ED sites, working a tier 4 (registrar level) rota; must have completed ST3 or equivalent competencies.
  • Mentor junior clinical fellows and support junior doctors in decision‑making.
  • Develop and deliver education programmes (simulation, postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, ultrasound training, leadership and research).
  • Coordinate an embedded weekly in‑situ simulation programme across both adult departments.
  • Support the development of learning environments for clinicians, students and trainees.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, audit and research projects.
  • Facilitate national and deanery‑wide teaching programmes where relevant.
  • Engage in local and national educational events, including FOAM‑ed and trainee wellbeing initiatives.

Eligibility & Qualifications
  • Full registration with the GMC and a current licence to practise.
  • MCEM or equivalent intermediate FRCEM qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience equivalent to ST4 (or higher), with a minimum of 60 months of post‑registration experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in emergency medicine and relevant specialties (ACCS, trauma, surgery, paediatrics).
  • Demonstrated teaching and educational skill set, including curriculum development, assessment and simulation.
  • Evidence of research or audit involvement, preferably with publications or presentations.
  • Desirable: higher degree (MD/PhD) or pursuing FRCEM.
Required Skills & Behaviours
  • Clinical knowledge, judgement and prioritisation applying to complex emergency cases.
  • Adherence to patient safety, dignity and confidentiality principles.
  • Advanced trauma life support or equivalent training.
  • Effective communication and teamwork across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to lead educational activities, mentor junior staff and contribute to clinical governance.
Person Specification
  • Essential: 60 months experience post‑GMC registration; foundation skills; patient‑centred care; professional integrity.
  • Additional Criteria – Essential: Research understanding, audit experience, evidence‑based practice, teaching and feedback experience.
  • Qualifications – Essential: MBBS (or equivalent) and success in CT3/ST3 or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Higher academic degree; working towards FRCEM.
  • Eligibility: Full registration, licence to practise, eligibility to work in the UK.
