Job description
Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Clinical Fellow to join our Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia Team looking after patients requiring Level 2 and Level 3 support following Cardiothoracic Surgery or Cardiological procedures. Surgical work includes routine bypass grafts, valves and complex aortic, mitral and pulmonary procedures, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Training also includes rotation into the ITU for specialist care.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the department’s on‑call rota and perform theatre duties supporting consultants and specialty doctors in elective and emergency theatres.
  • Provide a supervised (direct and indirect) Anesthetic service with responsibility for continuity of care for patients on the Cardiac ITU.
  • Pre‑assess all patients prior to anaesthesia and review patients post‑operatively in recovery or on the wards when required.
  • Assess and examine ITU admissions, attend ITU ward rounds and issue discharge notes.
  • Be a member of the resuscitation team, order tests and obtain results.
  • Promote multidisciplinary teamwork, support governance processes at clinical, managerial and medical levels, and take part in regional audit.
  • Provide advice, support and training to all junior medical staff in medical wards.
  • Take part in continuing medical education activities and in post‑graduation teaching of F1s and SHOs.
