Job Overview

The Department of Anaesthesia at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is offering two 6‑to‑12‑month senior clinical fellow posts in general anaesthesia at Charing Cross Hospital, starting 1 November 2025 (earlier start dates may be considered).

Eligibility

Applicants must have fully completed the FRCA or equivalent qualification and have a minimum of 5 years experience in anaesthesia and intensive care within a structured training program.

Responsibilities
  • Cover the Stage 2 and Stage 3 (Airway and Neuro‑anaesthesia) curriculum of the Royal College of Anaesthesia.
  • Participate in a 1:8 senior registrar on‑call rota alongside other residents.
  • Provide anaesthesia for a variety of surgical lists covering neurosurgery, head & neck, complex airway procedures, major urology, ENT, plastics, major colorectal, orthopaedics and day surgery at Charing Cross Hospital and supporting procedures at Hammersmith Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital.
  • Engage in research, education, quality improvement and audit projects, supporting the department’s tradition of publishing and presenting work.
  • Develop non‑clinical skills through teaching, research, publication preparation and project leadership.
Clinical Rota
  • Normal theatre day: 07:30 – 17:30
  • Long day: 07:30 – 20:00 (1:8)
  • Night shift: 19:30 – 08:00 (1:8)
Surgical Specialties
  • Neurosurgery (including interventional neuro‑radiology and thrombectomy)
  • Head & neck (plastics reconstructions, free flaps, robotic assisted surgery)
  • Complex airway procedures (laryngo‑tracheal reconstruction, airway lasering)
  • Major urology (robotic assisted surgery)
  • ENT
  • Plastics
  • Major colorectal (including HIPEC)
  • Major orthopaedics
  • Day surgery
  • Upper GI and endocrine surgery at Hammersmith and St Mary’s hospitals (renal, hepatobiliary, cardio‑thoracic, major gynae‑oncology, colorectal/oesophageal)
