We are assisting a prestigious NHS Trust in the UK to recruit a Senior Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine for a 12-month fixed-term or substantive position within their successful Medicine department.
Their ambulatory areas, located within two emergency villages, are designed to identify, investigate, and manage emergency admissions arriving in AE or from primary care. These patients are managed and discharged within 8 hours, primarily focusing on those who do not require inpatient admission, thus facilitating admission avoidance and alleviating pressure on the emergency department.
The medical assessment units are arranged in a zonal setup, allowing future developments such as frailty or high-intensity care areas. The aim is to enable prompt clinical decision-making, ensuring patients are directed to the appropriate destination—home, ward bed, or other discharge points—within 72 hours of the estimated discharge date.
The acute medicine unit serves as a hub for education and learning, involving medical students, advanced care practitioners, nursing staff, physician associates, and other allied health professionals working collaboratively daily.
The post offers registrar-level experience in a teaching hospital across all major medical sub-specialties. It is suitable for doctors who have completed Core Medical Training (CMT) or equivalent experience, those seeking to progress to specialty training, or individuals pursuing non-consultant career grades or SAS routes. Responsibilities include clerking and managing patients in acute medicine and ambulatory settings, participating in ward rounds, and engaging in continuous improvement projects, education, and audits.
Located in North West England, the area offers a blend of rural and urban lifestyles, with access to beautiful countryside, coastline, cultural venues, and excellent transport links to larger cities like Bristol.
