Senior Clinical Fellow - Hepatobiliary

The closing date is 17 December 2025

The Hepatobiliary Unit has a vacancy for one Clinical Fellow, to work at ST4-8 level. This post would be suitable for individuals either at the mid-point or towards the end of their higher surgical training. The learning opportunities encompass complex benign biliary disease, Hepatobiliary malignancy, General and Emergency Surgery.

A commitment to a clinical research project would be a prerequisite for this post.

The Hepatobiliary and Colorectal units have built upon the expertise in the management of complex liver surgery and colorectal cancer surgery. Patients are referred to the units for assessment and treatment from all over the United Kingdom. Referrals are also received from overseas. Hampshire Hospitals is also a centre of excellence for Neuroendocrine tumours.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of 2 National Specialist Centres for pseudomyxoma peritonei, commissioned by National Commissioning Group (NCG) on behalf of United Kingdom residents, for the assessment and treatment of pseudomyxoma peritonei.

Main duties of the job

• To provide day to day care for inpatients under the supervision of a daily consultant ward round
• Perform / assist in major resections as appropriate to their level of experience and the complexity of the case.
• Join the on-call rota in General Surgery (1:12)
• Share in the teaching of Medical Students (from UCH/Middlesex, Southampton, St George's and also from abroad) and junior doctors.
• Participation in any current research programme.
• Administrative involvement.
• Attendance at weekly meetings in General Surgery, Morbidity and Mortality, Journal club and Multidisciplinary team meeting. Attendance is encouraged at all Tutorials and Postgraduate Education within the Hospital.
