A prominent healthcare institution in Bristol is seeking a Senior Emergency Medicine doctor (ST3+ equivalent). The role involves leading a team in the emergency department, working on the Middle Grade rota and managing critical cases. Job description
Overview

Senior posts in Emergency Medicine are aimed at doctors (ST3+ equivalent) who have experience working in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will work on the Middle Grade rota and, if on the senior tier, will be responsible for running the Department in the late evenings and nights. This will include leading trauma calls and cardiac arrests.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Reception, diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients presenting to the adult Emergency Department.
  • Develop competency in autonomous clinical management whilst ensuring patient safety.
  • Work closely with ICU at BRI and specialist units, arranging appropriate care for referred patients.
Managerial & Governance Responsibilities
  • Report to the Clinical Director and contribute to clinical audit and governance projects.
  • Participate in at least one supervised audit project during the 12‑month post and attend interdisciplinary clinical governance meetings.
Essential Knowledge & Experience
  • Able to assess, resuscitate and stabilise acutely sick patients.
  • Key member of cardiac arrest team.
  • Good clinical judgement and understanding of audit and governance processes.
  • Completed specialist skills courses (e.g. difficult airways, ATLS/APLS, ultrasound).

  • Designed and completed audits.

Essential Qualifications and Training
  • Registered with General Medical Council (UK).
  • At least 24 months full‑time hospital service as a trainee in the Foundation (or higher) grade, no unexplained career gaps.
  • Advanced Life Support provider.
  • Previous experience of working in critical care in the British Healthcare system (not observing).
  • Specialist interest intent and evidence of interest.
Desirable Qualifications and Training
  • Intermediate EM/MRCP/MRCS (Part 1) or equivalent.
  • Other membership, fellowship or diplomas.
