Job description

Overview

These exciting senior posts in Emergency Medicine are aimed at doctors (ST3+ equivalent) who have at least 12 months experience working in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will work on the Middle Grade rota and, if on the senior tier, will be responsible for running the Department in the late evenings and nights, including leading trauma calls and cardiac arrests. There is consultant presence on-site from 0800 – midnight each day, and a consultant on-call from midnight to 0800.

Responsibilities

• Provide and maintain a high standard of care for all patients in the Emergency Department.
• Communicate effectively with medical and nursing staff of other disciplines, ancillary workers and paramedics to achieve efficient patient management.
• Provide intermediate level supervision for ACCS, GPVTS, FY2 and Trust SHO.
• Lead resuscitation and trauma calls.
• Participate in audit activity meetings and departmental audit projects.
• Facilitate education of juniors, including nursing staff of the department.
• Assist ED consultants in promoting health care to the department’s patients in a friendly and caring manner.

Qualifications & Experience

• ST3 or equivalent with at least 12 months Emergency Medicine experience.
• Ability to run late‑evening and night rotas with consultant presence on site.
• Strong communication and supervisory skills at the middle‑grade level.
• Commitment to audit, quality improvement and educational activities.
