Overview

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

We have an exciting opportunity for a resident doctor to apply for a position as a senior clinical fellow at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. We recognise that there is a lot of uncertainty in developing your career and hope that we can help. We are particularly keen to develop doctors who are interested in Emergency Medicine as a career who may be taking EM exams and/or trying to get into formal EM training or following the CESR pathway. However, lots of future careers can be viewed through Emergency Medicine and we are happy to help you develop skills and connections in all areas.

We strive to deliver great patient care by working together as a team and we are looking for equally passionate and enthusiastic doctors who are highly motivated, organised and keen to broaden their experience and exposure to emergency medicine.

Responsibilities
  • Work independently after a short induction, and alongside other senior Emergency Medicine specialists in direct patient management and in supervising the work of junior medical staff.
  • Contribute ideas about improving the patient journey within the Emergency Department.
  • Independently deliver emergency medical care from first assessment, selecting appropriate diagnostics based on the primary assessment and following through to treatment or referral to specialties, General Practice and other community-based services, in line with RCEM and Trust guidance and policy.
  • Operate across a 24/7 rota, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with 40-hour (full-time) appointments and an 80:20 split between direct clinical care and EDT.
  • Adhere to departmental holiday rules; holidays and other leave are to be applied for with at least 6 weeks notice.
About the department

The RLI Emergency Department is led by 12 Emergency Medicine Consultants with a range of skills and interests. The department sees around 64,000 new patients per annum, is a trauma unit, has an onsite Minor Treatment unit and paediatric department where you will have a significant opportunity to develop paediatric skills.

The department provides an ED service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must hold full GMC registration and have a proven record of experience in Emergency Medicine.
  • Applicants should have at least 1 year of experience post-registration.

All three hospitals provide a range of services and planned care, including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day-case and inpatient surgery, and additional outreach services across Morecambe Bay. Senior clinical support is available on all shifts.

Equality of opportunity is our policy. The Trust provides health services to a diverse community.

Please note, team working across a full 24/7 rota is essential - you will be working independently after a short induction.
