Cardiology SpR – Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust

Overview

A fixed‑term post of 6 months, with a possibility to extend, for a post‑foundation stage doctor or a junior doctor with some previous experience in Cardiology. The successful applicant will work at Queens and King George Hospitals, supporting Cardiology outpatient clinics, inpatient reviews, and will have ward commitments on both sites. On‑call commitment is allocated to this post and the post is banded.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day care for inpatients on the coronary care unit / cardiology ward under the supervision of consultant cardiologists.
  • See ward referrals and supervise two IMTs and three junior clinical fellows.
  • Supervise up to two outpatient general cardiology clinics per week.
  • Contribute to departmental audit projects and teach medical students.
  • Attend the weekly cardiology departmental meeting for teaching and training purposes.
  • Work closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists in Cardiology and attend departmental and regional academic meetings.
Qualifications and Experience
  • GMC registration and MBBS essential.
  • MRCP desirable but not essential.
  • Some previous experience in Cardiology highly desirable.
  • Band 5 or 6 appropriate for the post.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
Training and Development
  • Early career development opportunities in cardiology training such as echocardiography, coronary angiography or pacing, depending on the interest and level of experience of the successful candidate.
  • Potential to progress into a Registrar (ST3 equivalent) role.
