Job summary

Babcock is recruiting a Principal Civil Structural Engineer at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site in Plymouth. You will lead civil and structural design packages on major infrastructure programmes, providing technical leadership and delivering safe, high‑quality solutions that support defence operations.

This full‑time, hybrid role is 35 hours per week with at least three days on site. You will work with multi‑disciplinary teams, manage interfaces and stakeholders, and drive design reviews,

Qualifications

• Lifecycle experience delivering civil/structural design projects.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary teams with multiple interfaces.
• Experience in heavy civil design and building structures.
• Proven track record in regulated or similar environments.
• Knowledge of industrial buildings and structures.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of civil/structural design packages to scope, quality, schedule and costs.
• Manage technical aspects from initial identification to handover.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagement and incorporate requirements.
• Drive technical planning, design reviews and engineering assurance.
• Ensure quality, safety, risk management and governance compliance.
