About the Business Unit

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

About the Role

The Energy Unit, specifically the Nuclear, Civil and Defence division, are recruiting Senior Civil Engineers to join our fast‑growing team where you’ll have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of exciting projects ranging from nuclear, defence, and other energy and infrastructure projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative projects and support clients locally as well as the larger team based in the UK and Europe, while working in a collaborative and successful team.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all stages of project evolution from feasibility and concept to detailed design work, planning support, through to project construction and commissioning.
  • Involved in multi‑disciplinary projects that requires liaising with Engineers internally within Mott MacDonald and external Clients/Stakeholders to provide cost‑effective infrastructure solutions.
  • Responsible for leading and/or undertaking design and checking of engineering design works on a wide variety of energy, defence and other infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare, in English, specifications and minimum functional specifications for the civil engineering aspects of energy, defence and other infrastructure projects.
  • Lead civil inspections of infrastructure assets across the UK as part of asset maintenance and life extension. Prepare, in English, and provide to Client detailed inspection reports.
  • Offer a consultative advisory approach to clients to ensure the best solution is offered to meet their needs.
  • Undertake site and client office visits, as per project requirements.
  • Ensure client satisfaction, pursue and promote opportunities with clients.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor programmes for scheduling and costs and reporting on deliverables across specific projects.
  • Assist with project management, control and administration as appropriate to the level of experience.
  • Responsible for the development and mentoring of staff.
Requirements
  • Chartered Status: Hold Chartered status or demonstrate equivalent experience with significant progress toward achieving Chartered status.
  • Experience in the Energy Sector or similar regulated industries is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, as you will collaborate daily with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Proven ability to deliver high quality engineering solutions aligned with your expertise and skills.

If you meet 80% or more of what we’re looking for, please still apply. We understand not everyone will meet all the requirements, but you might have skills we didn’t know we need.

Please be advised that offers for this role are conditional upon obtaining the appropriate level of Security Clearance.

This decision is a consequence of the changes made to the Skilled Worker route by the UK Government in April 2024. We continue to welcome applications from candidates who are eligible for alternative immigration routes in the UK, that do not require sponsorship as a Skilled Worker now or in future.
