Job summary

Senior Civil Engineer position based in Reading, employed by Mott MacDonald but working across the Mott MacDonald Bentley joint venture. The role focuses on delivering civil design for water and wastewater projects, ensuring safety and compliance, and coordinating across disciplines.

You’ll provide design support, mentor engineers, engage with clients, and contribute to improving delivery processes and digital tools within a leading UK engineering group.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Chartership (CEng) with a relevant Engineering Institution.
  • Experience of delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Providing design support and guidance for schemes and ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.
  • Working closely with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages and construction.
  • Engaging with clients and managing relationships to support project aims as part of a one-team approach.
  • Managing interfaces and integration of the civil design with other disciplines and producing requisite documentation.
  • Acting as technical checker on project documents and undertaking technical reviews across teams.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes including standard designs, sustainable solutions and digital tools.
  • Undertaking site reviews to ensure buildability and integration within existing systems.
  • Supporting development of the civil engineering team, mentoring engineers and identifying resource needs.

Mott MacDonald Bentley is a fully integrated design and build business combining the design expertise of Mott MacDonald with the contracting experience of JN Bentley to deliver award winning projects. MMB has extended its contract with Thames Water for an additional five years. As the largest water and wastewater provider in the UK, Thames Water serves 15 million customers throughout London and the Thames Valley. This extension will carry the current workload beyond the end of AMP8 in March 2030. We are delivering work in the Thames Valley region (extending from Cirencester in the west to the M25 and from Basingstoke in the South to Banbury in the North). This sees us undertake a varied programme of sizable projects in wastewater treatment, clean water production and Infrastructure (Water and Wastewater networks).

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you'll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities

- enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the civil functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all civil aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.

The role of a Senior Civil Engineer includes:

- Providing design support and guidance for schemes and ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards

- Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond
