Job description
Overview

An established firm of Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers with offices throughout the UK is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join its growing team in Scarborough. Founded over 50 yeas ago, the company has earned a strong reputation for delivering innovative and practical engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors including education, commercial, residential, industrial, petrochemical, food, health, retail and energy. With a diverse project portfolio that spans everything from small-scale developments to major multi-use schemes, the firm continues to expand through its dedication to technical excellence, collaborative working and outstanding client service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Play a leading role in the design, development and delivery of high-quality civil engineering solutions. Focus on the detailed design of drainage systems, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), external works and paving, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, industry standards and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and submit S104, S38 and S278 packages, produce Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Impact Assessments, and deliver technical reports to support planning and construction phases.
  • Work across a wide variety of projects, from schools and universities to commercial, residential, industrial and energy developments. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, conduct on-site assessments where required and contribute to integrated design solutions that are both cost-effective and technically robust.
  • Take ownership of project delivery, manage workload, monitor fees and resources, and ensure all outputs are delivered to the highest professional standards.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers; maintain the company's commitment to engineering excellence. Employ strong communication skills to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a master's qualification advantageous. Minimum five years of relevant experience in civil engineering design, with a focus on drainage and external works. Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional body. Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk InfoDrainage (MicroDrainage), together with a sound understanding of current design standards and industry regulations. Strong leadership, project management and problem-solving abilities, and initiative to work independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment.

Other Requirements

A full UK driving licence is required.
