Job summary

Turner Lovell Limited in the UK is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to lead the end-to-end design of electricity substations up to 400 kV, from concept through to commissioning.

The role requires coordinating with internal teams and clients, delivering drawings, calculations and specifications, visiting sites, reviewing designs, and mentoring junior engineers to ensure safety, quality and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years' experience in power transmission/substations or related infra.
• Familiar with design lifecycles from feasibility through handover.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV).
• Attend site visits, client meetings and design reviews to track progress.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet scope, budget and schedule.
• Manage design risks and develop practical, buildable solutions.
• Oversee design reviews and integration with electrical/structural disciplines.
• Mentor junior engineers and support project delivery.

Turner Lovell is currently recruiting for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join a rapidly expanding engineering design consultant and grid connection contractor. Our client is renowned for delivering exceptional solutions within the power, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
As a Senior Civil Design Engineer you will:

• Lead the end-to-end civil design of electricity substations (up to 400kV) across the UK.
• Attend site visits, client meetings, and design reviews to monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and maintain alignment with project scope.
• Coordinate closely with internal design teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet technical, safety, and quality requirements within time and budget constraints.
• Manage design risks and develop practical, buildable engineering solutions throughout project development and delivery.
• Oversee design reviews and ensure integration with adjacent disciplines such as electrical and structural.
• Guide and support junior members within the team.

The ideal profile is someone who has:

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of industry experience, ideally within power transmission, distribution, substations, or related infrastructure in the energy and renewables sectors.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycles from feasibility through handover.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in Civil 3D, Revit, or Navisworks is advantageous.
