Job description

Senior CHP Field Service Engineer | CHP, LFG, Biogas & AD | £60,000-£70,000 (nego, DOE) + Company Vehicle + Benefits

This role won't suit everyone. It's built for a senior engineer who's ready to run a region without day-to-day supervision.

Our client is a profitable, debt-free gas-engine and CHP operator. This role gives one engineer day-to-day ownership of five generation sites across landfill gas, anaerobic digestion and CHP, with the autonomy to plan your own diary and an experienced team behind you when needed.

The Role
  • Technical ownership of a five-site portfolio of Jenbacher, MWM and Scania gas engines (150kW-1MW)
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and controls faults, working from root cause rather than parts-swapping
  • Plan your own servicing, site visits and follow-up work, using remote monitoring to judge when a site visit is needed
  • Contribute to major 10,000hr and 20,000hr services, overhauls and rebuilds alongside experienced colleagues and specialist contractors
  • Decide when a job needs a second pair of hands or a contractor, and when to stop work on safety grounds
The working week
  • Gensets are grid-connected with remote access, so most faults are triaged from a laptop before anyone gets in a van
  • Issues that can't be resolved remotely and need out-of-hours attendance come up roughly once a month, not weekly
  • No formal on-call rota - if something can't be resolved remotely out of hours, contractors are available to attend, and anyone who does attend is reimbursed with time off in lieu
  • A 40-hour week, roughly half planned and half reactive, with flexible start and finish times
  • Mix of site and home-based working, with your own stock, sites and admin - not managed by a central desk
You'll be
  • An experienced engineer, comfortable running a region without day-to-day supervision - this is not a role for someone who needs close direction or is early in their career
  • Substantial hands-on gas-engine maintenance and fault-finding experience
  • Strong mechanical foundation with practical electrical and controls capability
  • Background in CHP, landfill gas, anaerobic digestion, biogas or comparable gas-engine environments
  • Confident making technical decisions independently, including when to call in a contractor or stop work on safety grounds
  • Full UK driving licence
What's on offer
  • £60,000-£70,000 basic, negotiable depending on experience
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • 25 days' holiday
  • Company van or pickup, private use available
  • Time off in lieu for out-of-hours work
  • Ongoing training and support with professional development, including funded day-release study for engineers working towards further qualifications (including degree level)
