Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior/Chief Cardiac Physiologist (Band 6/7) for Devices/Invasive roles. The post involves Pacemaker/ICD procedures, device follow-ups and remote monitoring with eligibility for maternity cover on a fixed term contract.

The role requires independence in bradycardia pacing and basic cardiac angiography, with opportunities to gain experience across other areas of Cardiac Physiology.

Qualifications

• BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent is required.
• HCPC registration as Cardiac Physiologist/Scientist is required.
• Post-Graduate Education in BHRS/IBHRE/EHRA is desirable.
• RCCP/AHCS registration is recommended.

Responsibilities

• Perform pacemaker and ICD procedures and follow-ups.
• Conduct implantable device follow ups using device programmers and remote monitoring.
• Carry out ECG observations during deactivations or reprogramming.
• Undertake complex cardiac investigations with supervision as needed.
• Report suitability of electrode positions to the implanting physician.

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist (Band 6)/Chief Cardiac Physiologist (Band 7) – depending on experience for Devices/Invasive.

As a Devices Physiologist you will undertake Pacemaker and ICD procedures, including implantation procedures, devices follow ups and home monitoring reviews.

All applicants need to have, as a minimum, independence for bradycardia pacing (implant and follow up) and independence in basic cardiac angiography. Applications will be considered for those with the required minimum skill set looking to obtain experience in other aspects of the role.

Main duties of the job

Demonstrate competence in the full range of cardiac investigations carried out by the department including supervision and training of staff of all levels from cardiographers and nurses to registrars and consultants.

To perform this role, specialist knowledge in cardiac rhythm management, specifically cardiac implantable electronic devices and basic cardiac catheterisation is required.

Perform a wide range of multidisciplinary highly complex cardiology investigations, with advanced knowledge in invasive cardiology and have the ability to disseminate highly sensitive clinical information appropriately to nurses, care homes, patients and relatives.

Pacemaker implants and will analyse device and patient interaction. Based on this analysis, the post holder will report to the implanting physician suitability (or otherwise) of electrode position(s).

Carry out implantable device follow up clinics using dedicated device programmers and remote monitoring platforms, write comprehensive reports, make, and independently instigate pacemaker/device therapy prescriptions based on clinical findings and escalation any abnormal findings to the appropriate personnel.

To attend to perform ICD/CRT-D deactivations and device reprogramming independently. To undertake ECG observation of patients during deactivation or reprogramming independently, as and when required as per the clinical need.

Qualifications

• BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
• Qualifications equivalent to gain registration with HCPC as a Cardiac Physiologist/Scientist
• Working towards Post-Graduate Education - BHRS/IBHRE/EHRA
• RCCP/AHCS Registration

Knowledge

• At least one-year clinical experience at Band 5 Cardiac Physiologist level
• Independent in Basic left heart cardiac catherterisation and Basic bradycardia pacing implant and follow up
• Independent in Core Cardiac Investigations
• Able to undertake complex device follow-up
• Significant experiences as a Cardiac Physiologist in all areas of Cardiac Physiology, with further experience as a specialist in Cardiac Rhythm Management and basic cardiac catherterisation
