Job Summary

Our innovative Cardiology department's Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 cath labs, a recovery area and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the cath lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion. In addition we run a 24‑hour heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on‑call basis. Our service currently entails 2.5 GA lists a week supporting complex pacing and electrophysiology procedures. We also have a fortnightly cardioversion list. This is set to increase in the future. Main duties of the job
  • Support the multidisciplinary team in caring for patients pre and post procedures.
  • Complete regular observations post procedure, escalating any concerns to a registered staff member.
  • Ensure patients are eating and drinking appropriately pre and post procedure.
  • Maintain excellent communication with patients during their stay in the cath lab and recovery area.
  • Assist the multidisciplinary team in completing procedures including conscious sedation, frequent monitoring and reassurance to patients during procedures.
  • Support multidisciplinary team in maintaining excellent infection control standards within the department.
  • Assist in equipment checks and ensuring documentation on checklists is up-to-date.
  • Ensure cath labs and recovery area are stocked safely and efficiently to support productive working.
  • Support the Lead Nurse in developing and leading the support worker group.
  • Support the team by preparing surgical trolleys to facilitate effective flow between procedures.
