Role Overview

The Senior Category Manager – Global Road, Rail and Intermodal Freight Procurement will be responsible for the enterprise Category Strategy for Road, Rail and Intermodal transportation across the Haleon supply chain and for direct sourcing activities in the International Road Freight (Leg B) and associated services worldwide. The role will deliver outcomes across Haleon’s ~£150m global spend by collaborating with regional and cross‑BU procurement colleagues, Site/CMO teams, Regional Logistics Operations, the Logistics CoE team, and functional business SMEs. Responsibilities include driving sub‑category strategies, acting as procurement business partner to Quality Supply Chain and Trading Partners, supporting commercial outcome implementation, and resolving escalations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead global category responsibility for Road, Rail and Intermodal Freight, defining overall enterprise Category Strategy and aligning with key stakeholders.
  • Drive international Road, Rail and Intermodal Freight (Leg B) sourcing, including regional tenders, mini‑bids and spot market activity, with focus on EMEA and NAM and coverage of APAC and LATAM.
  • Shape the category strategy for inbound Road Freight to Site/CMO locations and support best practice for outbound Road Freight to customers and distributors.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise for the Haleon International Freight Operating Model and Network Strategy initiatives.
  • Own elements of the broader International Freight strategy, including inter‑modal or cross‑dock solutions, sustainability initiatives and M&A‑related network changes.
  • Deliver annual net savings targets and develop a rolling pipeline for International Road Freight aligned with business outcomes.
  • Lead market intelligence, rate benchmarking and contract management for all Road, Rail and Intermodal Freight categories.
  • Own fuel mechanism, contract standards, spend tracking and rate compliance for International Road Freight.
  • Support annual business planning, providing category input on inflation and savings reporting.
  • Manage contract lifecycle for all International Road Freight agreements.
  • Participate in the development and deployment of end‑to‑end enterprise supply chain strategies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate within a sub‑team of five logistics procurement colleagues.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business or Finance (Master’s or relevant industry qualification preferred).
  • Extensive specialist knowledge and practical logistics experience, with subject‑matter expertise in managing logistics categories in a regional or global sourcing context and/or demonstrated 3PL/4PL logistics operations capabilities.
  • Proven ability to forge close business relationships with stakeholders at management level and translate business priorities into competitive commercial strategies.
  • Highly developed commercial acumen and a successful track record in delivering logistics and/or sourcing transformations.
  • Multi‑year history of delivering year‑on‑year savings or continuous improvements in a challenging economic climate.
  • Strong negotiation skills, adept at complex negotiations and influencing managers both externally and internally.
  • In‑depth understanding of logistics environments and supplier relationship models.
  • Experience managing large projects, with project and change management experience and strong leadership in service/operations delivery.
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a matrix environment with tolerance for ambiguity.
