Job description

Due to the expansion and increased demand of Cardiology diagnostics at Kingston Hospital we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Cardiac Physiologist with ambition to further their knowledge and experience.

We are a dynamic and inter professional cardiology team, offering a wide range of services across the cardiac spectrum to our local community. Our philosophy is to deliver an excellent standard of patient focused care in line with NICE guidelines, National Service Frameworks and evidence based practice.

The Cardiac Physiology Service at Kingston Hospital is an excellent and well established service providing a full range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac investigations and therapies. We have expanded our current level of service to include complex implantable device follow‑up (ICD and biventricular devices) alongside the developing Heart Failure and arrhythmia services. There will be opportunity for further training to the right candidate.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Provide specialist knowledge and skills in a range of Cardiac Investigations rotating in Invasive and non-invasive Cardiology.
  • 2. To perform the diagnostic tests and interpret results to produce an accurate and comprehensive report to the required standard for each study.
  • 3. Provide advice to patients regarding outcome of clinical procedures and next steps in care pathways.
  • 4. Provide specialist advice to clinicians with regard to procedure results to enable further development of individual care plans.
  • 5. Help to provide supervision and training to junior staff and other health care professionals.
  • 6. Actively maintain a safe working environment in accordance with hospital guidelines and policies and help to ensure junior staff work to these guidelines.
  • 7. Respond to and assist with cardiac/ cardio‑pulmonary arrest or other life threatening scenarios.
  • 8. Contribute to the evaluation and safe use of relevant technical equipment and related technology.
  • 9. Continue to develop own academic knowledge, experience and skills in the Cardiac Physiology field, showing evidence of continuous professional development.
  • 10. Practice and adhere to the Trust’s confidentiality, information and data protection policies.
  • 11. Assist in the departmental administration duties if and when the time arises.
Education and Training
  • 1. Identify own training and development needs and undertake appropriate training/education as required.
  • 2. Participate in an annual individual performance review process where objectives will be agreed, performance monitored and personal development needs discussed.
  • 3. To attend all statutory and mandatory training as and when required to do so.
  • 4. Act responsibly in respect of colleague’s health, safety and welfare following safe work practices and complying with the Trust’s Health and Safety Policies.
  • 5. Adhere to all Trust Policies as applicable.

The post holder will be able to perform a broad range of Cardiac Investigation procedures in the Cardiology diagnostic field to a highly competent and professional standard.

The post holder will possess a degree of specialist knowledge and skills and have experience in one or more specialist areas within Cardiac Physiology – including pacing and echocardiography.

Applicants will have a BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent and experience in other specialist areas within Cardiac Physiology including Pacing and Echocardiography. Opportunity to work towards further qualifications is available.
