Job summary

First Recruitment Group seeks an experienced Instrument Engineer to lead design activities across concept to detailed design on oil & gas projects. You will develop instrument deliverables and coordinate with client engineers and project management throughout the lifecycle.

The role requires extensive experience in chemical and petrochemical sectors, UK standards, and feasibility with DCS/PLC/SIS systems, ATEX, and P&ID development.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Instrument Engineering Design on Medium/Large capital projects from concept to start-up.
  • Extensive experience in Chemical, Petrochemical and Oil & Gas industries (refinery preferred).
  • Experience working on UK projects using UK standards essential.
  • Competent in leading the C&I Discipline interface with other Disciplines.
  • Strong liaison with Client Engineers & Project Management.
  • Proven ability for equipment specification and supplier compliance in EPC environments.
  • Experience with DCS, PLC, and SIS systems across full lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Area Instrumentation (ATEX).
  • Proficient in P&ID development and sizing of flow devices.
  • Experience with budget and schedule control/monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Lead instrument engineering activities across projects including Conceptual Studies to Detailed Design.
  • Develop Instrument Engineering deliverables for each project as required.
  • Coordinate with Client Engineers and Project Management to ensure milestones are met.
  • Specify equipment and ensure supplier compliance within EPC contracting.
  • Work on UK projects following UK standards and company quality requirements.
  • Engage in design safety and constructability considerations and site surveys.

Job description

  • Work activities will include project work on a long-standing Master Service Agreement in the Oil & Gas industry (downstream)
  • Work activities for both projects and proposals will be executed across all phases of projects including Conceptual Studies; Basic; FEED and Detailed Design.
  • Project work will include the development of Instrument Engineering deliverables as required on a project-by-project basis.
Skills / Qualifications:
  • Experience in Instrument Engineering Design on Medium / Large capital projects from concept to start-up.
  • Extensive experience in Chemical, Petrochemical and Oil & Gas industries (experience in Refinery preferred)
  • Experience working on UK projects using UK standards essential
  • Competent in working within the C&I Discipline of a contracting organisation.
  • Competent to Lead the C&I Discipline interface with other Disciplines
  • Very good proactive communicator. The role involves liaison with Client Engineers & Project Management.
  • Proven ability for equipment specification and the selection and in ensuring compliance from the suppliers, preferably within an EPC contracting organisation.
  • Competent in project execution using selected design tools and techniques.
  • Competent in budget & Schedule control/monitoring and reporting.
  • Competent in design safety, and constructability.
  • Competent in conducting site surveys.
  • To be able to work to Company standards.
  • Innovative when appropriate.
  • Competent in Electrical protection methodologies.
  • Competent in Specification, technical bid analysis, and requisitioning. of Field Instrumentation and Analysers.
  • Competent in the application, specification, and requisitioning of DCS, PLC, and SIS systems, with experience in the system's full lifecycle. (TUV FS Eng qualification or equivalent preferable).
  • Competent in the Specification / Design / Implementation of Hazardous Area Instrumentation (ATEX).
  • Competent in Instrumentation and Control requirements for Mechanical packages.
  • Competent in P&ID development.
  • Competent in the Sizing of flow devices/control valves/relief devices.
  • Experience of working with global integrated delivery teams is essential.
