Senior Buyer – Residential Developer – Northern Home Counties

A reputable and well-established residential developer is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their team on a contract basis. This position offers the chance to be part of a growing business delivering a diverse portfolio of high-quality residential developments, including both low-rise and high-rise schemes, with project values ranging from £10m to £75m.

The Role

Position : Buyer

Location : Surrey (office-based, 5 days per week)

Rate / Salary : £300–£375 per day

This is a key role within the commercial team, requiring close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure efficient and cost-effective material procurement across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting take-offs and scheduling of materials and packages from drawings and specifications
  • Managing procurement processes, including issuing enquiries, tender analysis, and placing orders
  • Negotiating terms with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve best value
  • Liaising with design teams to manage design changes and update material schedules accordingly
  • Maintaining strong supplier relationships to ensure reliability, quality, and timely delivery
  • Supporting the commercial team with cost reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Identifying alternative suppliers and materials to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness
Requirements
  • Proven experience working as a Buyer within residential construction or housebuilding
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, material sourcing, and supply chain management
  • Confident negotiator with strong commercial awareness and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
