Role summary

As a Senior Business Analyst in Kainos, you will be responsible for ensuring that your team has a good understanding of business needs so that our customer solutions meet the needs of them and their users. You will be responsible for articulating problems and processes in ways understood by all stakeholders - both business and technical, and for facilitating the analysis and design of cost-effective software solutions that impact users worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Translate business needs into clear requirements for delivery teams and stakeholders
• Facilitate analysis and design of software solutions that meet customer needs and user requirements
• Create user stories and acceptance criteria that are easily consumable by the scrum team
• Lead or facilitate workshops and requirement sessions with clients and internal teams
• Assist with backlog management, refinement sessions, and prioritization
• Work with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve buy-in and ensure feasible solutions
• Translate business requirements into cost-effective functional specifications
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and manage expectations within project constraints
• Proactively identify risks and provide mitigations related to requirements and scope

Minimum Requirements

• Experience in bespoke software delivery, operating as part of an agile team working for an external customer (experience in a client-facing role in a consulting environment is a must-have)
• UK public sector experience
• Extensive experience in a relevant commercial or technical environment
• Broad business and technology understanding and awareness of industry trends
• Proficient in stakeholder management, sensitive to stakeholder needs while able to challenge where appropriate
• Excellent user story creation skills, articulating business needs in a format easily consumable by the scrum team (2 years, backlog management, refinement sessions, customers pre-sales, requirements, and priorities and value) including talking to end users
• Strong business process modelling skills, capturing existing processes, designing new processes, and presenting processes to achieve buy-in
• Competent facilitator of small groups to achieve focused outcomes (dev teams, product approval committee, delivery manager)
• Ability to translate business requirements into cost-effective functional requirements
• Good commercial awareness, always delivering within project constraints
• Strong understanding of Agile and Waterfall project management delivery methodologies
• Able to work flexibly and to tight deadlines
• Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate effectively
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders

Desirable

• Experience of software development or related problem-solving discipline
• Experience working on client sites delivering high-quality digital products and stakeholder management experience
• Demonstrated ability in managing, mentoring and coaching team members and wider community
• Experience mentoring customers on good story writing techniques
• Experience with agile and waterfall project methodologies across various frameworks (e.g., waterfall, scrum, Kanban)
• Active participant in communities of interest (e.g. online groups, speaking at conferences)
