Job summary

London Borough of Newham is seeking a Building Surveyor to manage its building assets, drive quality standards, and lead complex projects. You will oversee condition surveys, set maintenance programmes and ensure contractual compliance across a varied portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a surveyor in the construction industry and strong building knowledge.
  • Proven ability to manage contracts, budgets and project delivery.
  • Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Set up a system to record building conditions, decarbonisation and maintenance priorities.
  • Oversee contract forms (JCT Minor works, Intermediate, Design & Build, MF1).
  • Advise on property matters including party walls and risk management.
  • Monitor budgets, manage works, and ensure profitability and compliance.
  • Prepare procurement documents and analyse bids; manage payments.
  • Lead and mentor project team; report to project boards.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects and site managers on contracts.
