Job summary

A local council's property management team in Redditch is seeking a Senior Building Surveyor to manage and improve a diverse portfolio of council-owned buildings. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of extensive surveying experience and technical knowledge in construction practices. Job description
  • The Senior Building Surveyor will support Bromsgrove District and Redditch Borough Council's Property Services Team in managing, maintaining and improving a diverse portfolio of Council-owned buildings.
  • These include operational premises, commercial and industrial units, Leisure Trust facilities, and historic/heritage assets.
  • The postholder will oversee maintenance programmes, lead refurbishment projects, ensure statutory compliance, and provide professional technical advice to support effective strategic asset management.
  • Manage and respond to reactive maintenance issues across a varied property portfolio.
  • Plan, develop and deliver cyclical and preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Lead refurbishment and improvement projects, particularly within commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Undertake building condition surveys and produce detailed technical reports.
  • Prepare Schedules of Condition, dilapidation reports and contribute to strategic asset assessments.
  • Ensure all properties comply with statutory requirements, building regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Liaise with internal teams, external contractors, consultants and service providers to ensure effective delivery.
  • Provide professional building surveying advice to support wider property and asset management decisions.
  • Prepare and manage contract documentation, including JCT contracts, tender information and contract management duties.
  • Use AutoCAD to produce and update technical drawings.
  • Contribute to the effective management of Council assets, supporting service quality across the organisation.
  • React promptly to property-related issues; travel to sites in Redditch and Bromsgrove as required.
  • Extensive building surveying experience (minimum 5 years post‑graduation), covering commercial, industrial, leisure and heritage assets.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building maintenance, construction practices and statutory compliance.
  • Proven ability to deliver refurbishment, maintenance and asset improvement projects.
  • Experience producing surveys, technical reports, dilapidation assessments, condition surveys and schedules of work.
  • Ability to prepare and manage contract documentation (e.g., JCT contracts).
  • Competent in AutoCAD, including the ability to produce and amend DWG drawings.
  • Strong project management, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • People management experience.
  • Relevant qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and respond quickly to site requirements.
  • High level of professionalism, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work remotely with flexibility to attend site visits.
  • This is a 6‑month, inside‑IR35 assignment (part‑remote) requiring regular site visits across the Redditch and Bromsgrove areas.
  • Hours: 37 per week, 09:00–17:30.
  • DBS: Basic DBS required.
