Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Building Surveyor for its Huddersfield studio. You will perform building surveys, condition assessments and due diligence, producing detailed reports and schedules of works for a varied client base.

Successful candidates will have a relevant Building Surveying degree, substantial post-qualification experience, and a track record in managing projects. The role includes progression opportunities within a leading UK practice and exposure to healthcare

Qualifications

• MRICS chartership or working towards chartership.
• Substantial post-qualification experience as Building Surveyor in a UK practice/consultancy.
• Experience in project management and delivering projects.
• Knowledge of healthcare environments and fire/safety requirements advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out and oversee building surveys, condition assessments, and technical due diligence.
• Produce detailed technical reports, specifications and schedules of works.
• Investigate building defects and propose remedial measures.
• Deliver professional surveying advice to clients across a varied portfolio.
• Lead refurbishment and improvement projects from concept through to completion.
• Coordinate contract administration or Employer’s Agent roles when required.
• Develop and coordinate specifications, tender packages, and contract documentation.
• Oversee contractors and consultants, manage quality, programme and costs.
• Conduct regular site inspections and provide progress updates.
• Advise on planned maintenance strategies and lifecycle costs.
• Assist with dilapidations and party wall matters.

Duties for the role of Senior Building Surveyor include:

• Carrying out and overseeing building surveys, condition assessments and technical due diligence
• Producing detailed technical reports, specifications and schedules of works
• Investigating building defects, determining their underlying causes and proposing effective remedial measures
• Delivering professional surveying advice to clients across a varied property portfolio
• Leading refurbishment, alteration and improvement projects from initial concept through to completion
• Taking on Contract Administrator or Employer’s Agent responsibilities where required
• Developing, reviewing and coordinating specifications, tender packages and contract documentation
• Coordinating contractors and consultants while overseeing quality, programme and project costs
• Conducting regular site inspections and providing accurate updates on construction progress
• Advising clients on planned maintenance strategies, building lifecycle requirements and capital expenditure
• Assisting with dilapidations, party wall matters and other specialist building surveying instructions as required

Skills and experience for the role of Senior Building Surveyor:

• Relevant degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline
• MRICS qualified or actively working towards chartership
• Substantial post-qualification experience working as a Building Surveyor within a UK practice or consultancy
• Previous experience in project management and successfully delivering projects
• Experience within healthcare environments and knowledge of fire and safety requirements would be advantageous
• Strong experience in producing specifications, schedules of works and comprehensive technical reports
• Sound understanding of construction technology, building pathology, legislation and industry regulations
• Proven experience in contract administration and managing projects through to completion
• Strong communication, organisational and client-facing skills
