Qualifications

  • Experience as a Building Surveyor with a track record in managing projects.

We are looking for an experienced and forward‑thinking Senior Building Surveyor to join our dynamic and driven construction consultancy. Work on an exciting range of dynamic projects across a varied range of sectors including healthcare, blue light, local government and education.

What does the role involve?

As a Senior Building Surveyor, you’ll autonomously lead and manage projects from inception to completion, with minimal supervision. The role involves working collaboratively with a varied team of construction professionals and stakeholders to deliver projects safely on time, on budget, and with high client satisfaction. Work on a hybrid basis from either our London, Kent or Brighton offices.

Responsibilities
  • Manage projects of varied size and complexity including preparation of project design and specifications
  • Advise the client on procurement/contacts and act as the contract administrator
  • Prepare tender documentation, tender reports and recommendations to the client
  • Undertake day‑to‑day duties of either the Contractor Administrator or Employer’s Agent
  • Interpret drawings and designs, advise upon technical detail, analyse design in accordance with the technical brief, statutory requirements, and client instructions
  • Lead on and undertake condition surveys and liaise with other specialists
  • Carry out or manage others undertaking measured surveys of existing buildings or sites
  • Undertake site inspections
  • Oversee professional matters including but not limited to Party Wall Matters, Acquisition and Condition Surveys, and Dilapidations
  • Keep Associate Directors fully informed of progress
  • Receive client instructions and agree fee proposals for various projects and professional surveying instructions
  • Maintain technical working understanding of buildings, construction, management and operations, including their defects
  • Advise and report on building defects, maintenance and repairs in a concise and accurate manner
  • Understand statutory approval processes, including planning, listed building consent and building control approval, and manage these processes successfully
  • Work within the RIBA Plan of Works and oversee multi‑disciplinary project teams
  • Undertake training and development of others
  • Take personal responsibility for health and safety by working within company procedures
  • Strive to improve our social and environmental impact
  • Any other duties as reasonably required
Requirements
  • Ideally Chartered accreditation, or working towards (we can support you on your journey to chartership)
  • Ideally Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent)
  • Previous experience as a Building Surveyor
  • Ability to deliver larger and more complex projects through the whole project lifecycle
  • Ability to delegate tasks to others within the team and support their work
  • Support junior members of the team with mentoring and development
  • Development of leadership and management skills
  • Ability to manage fees and assist with fee bids
  • Generate new work through management of client relations
  • Ability to work on own initiative to drive and generate new business
  • Understanding of the account management process
  • Ability to analyse projects and report performance to line manager
  • Excellent knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety
  • Candidate will need to pass an enhanced DBS check for this role, due to the nature of client requirements
