Job summary

Morson Group, an established architectural practice in Newport, seeks an experienced Building Inspector / Principal Designer to support a range of residential and commercial projects. The role focuses on Building Regulations compliance and carrying out Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015, working with architects, clients and contractors.

You will review drawings and technical details, coordinate with Building Control bodies and ensure designs meet regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience in building control and building surveying.
• Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations and Approved Documents.
• Practical experience of reviewing construction drawings and technical information.
• Good understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and duties of a Principal Designer.
• Experience in architectural, construction or consultancy environments.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify regulatory issues.
• Strong communication skills with clients, contractors and design teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Practical, solutions-focused approach to technical challenges.

Responsibilities

• Review Building Regulations compliance for projects.
• Provide practical advice to architects, clients and project teams.
• Assist with Building Regulations submissions coordination.
• Identify compliance issues and advise on solutions.
• Review drawings, specs and technical details for regulatory alignment.
• Liaise with Building Control bodies, Approved Inspectors and others.
• Stay up to date with changes to Building Regulations and legislation.
• Assist with technical queries and provide practical guidance to teams.
• Undertake site visits to monitor compliance.
• Fulfil Principal Designer duties under CDM Regulations 2015.
• Coordinate health and safety matters during pre-construction.
• Identify and reduce health and safety risks in design.
• Coordinate information between designers, clients, contractors.
• Maintain records relating to Principal Designer duties.
