Job summary

WSP in Gloucester seeks a Senior Engineer to lead highway structures projects within the Bridges team, collaborating closely with Gloucestershire County Council and internal WSP experts to deliver high-quality solutions for the county’s infrastructure. You will coordinate assessments and inspections, driving safe, durable designs while mentoring junior colleagues.

Qualifications

• Civil engineering degree or equivalent qualification.

Join our Bridges team in Gloucester at an exciting time, as we embark on the early stages of WSP's long-term professional services partnership with Gloucestershire County Council (GCC).

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in a truly collaborative client relationship, working side‑by‑side with GCC within their offices and becoming an integral part of their team. Rather than operating as an external consultant, you'll work closely with client officers, contribute directly to strategic decision‑making, and help shape the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects across the county.

You will work within a team of established professionals with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the varied structures within the county. You will be further supported by structures colleagues from across WSP who provide additional resources and specialist expertise to deliver high quality services across the county.

This is an exciting time to join the team with GCC providing considerable additional funding to the structures programme to protect and improve their structural assets. We have an extensive programme of design, assessment and inspection schemes to provide a fast paced and varied workload. As a Senior Engineer within the team you will play a vital role in leading projects to maintain and enhance structures across the County, always ensuring we deliver value for Gloucestershire’s highway users.

In addition, Gloucestershire has an ambitious programme of major projects to enhance the transport network and boost the economy of the county. These provide further potential to be involved in the design and construction of notable new structures.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

• A passion for working on projects that make a real difference to local communities.
• A mature approach to Health and Safety, promoting high standards and setting an example for the team, colleagues and clients. An excellent knowledge of the relevant legislation which you can use to drive compliance on your project and among colleagues.
• Experience in the development of highways structures projects, assessments and/or inspections.
• Evidence of being a confident communicator able to convey your point of view and keep stakeholders and colleagues informed.
• Working towards Incorporated or Chartered status with a professional institution.
• A civil engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
