Role Definition

The Senior Engineer is a multi-skilled role responsible for carrying out Building Management System (BMS) works across service, maintenance, commissioning, projects, applications, energy, and bureau functions. The role requires providing technical support and guidance to clients, customers, and colleagues, as well as delivering solutions to complex BMS and third-party system issues.

Overview
  • A key senior team player, self-motivated and solutions-focused.
  • Recognised as a technical point of reference for colleagues and clients.
  • Provides training, mentoring, and supervision to junior engineers.
  • Delivers support across a wide range of conventional and DDC control systems.
  • Often acts in a supervisory capacity, offering advice, solutions, and technical expertise.
Responsibilities
  • Support service management with scheduling, training, and coaching of engineers.
  • Conduct energy surveys and audits.
  • Service, maintain, and commission BMS systems.
  • Produce detailed service/commissioning reports, test results, and assessments.
  • Integrate third-party systems into BMS (using Modbus, M-Bus, or BACnet devices).
  • Provide accurate updates to management on work status and location.
  • Supervise or instruct additional trades and engineers on-site.
  • Develop or back-engineer software strategies.
  • Install, modify, and demonstrate supervisor graphics.
  • Advise clients on system improvements, cost savings, and efficiency measures.
  • Quote for replacement or upgrade works.
  • Provide energy-saving solutions and develop new applications.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.

Working Pattern

Primarily field-based, with standard working hours of 8:00am - 4:30pm. Expected to be on‑site by 8:00am within the North West and Yorkshire regions. Travel time considered for sites outside these regions. Overtime may be required in specific circumstances (paid accordingly). Overnight stays provided for sites requiring travel of more than 3 hours. Occasional office attendance required for reporting, training, and updates.
