University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust operates the Cellular Pathology Department at Royal Stoke University Hospital, Stoke-On-Trent. The Senior Biomedical Scientist will manage day-to-day technical activities and support staff across tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and IHC workflows.

The post will be based in the Cellular Pathology Department at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, Stoke-On-Trent
To be an efficient and flexible member of the laboratory team providing a high-quality diagnostic service through specialist scientific and technical activities; handle specimen receipt, booking in, tissue transfer, perform tissue embedding, microtomy (cutting sections), frozen sections, operate and monitor automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special diagnostic procedures
Responsible as a Senior Biomedical Scientist for the main laboratory area, to manage and co-ordinate the day-to-day technical activities of the laboratory
Specialist duties in training require the individual to work with the training team to identify, plan, and facilitate training and development needs for all laboratory staff
To deliver tutorials, slide sessions, and in-house lectures
To work within and maintain Standard Operational Policies (SOPs), training records and documentation systems
Perform equipment problem solving and maintenance
Follow strict Health & Safety policices
To maintain competence to practice and to improve professional expertise through engagement in Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

Must hold Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
Provide a high-quality, reliable, and efficient cellular pathology diagnostic service for patients.
Work in a laboratory setting adhering to quality standards such as UKAS ISO 15189.
