Job description
Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative and dynamic Biomedical Scientists in Microbiology and/or Virology to join our team as Senior Biomedical Scientists. These are 2 full-time, substantive vacancies; we also support flexible working, job share or part time hours. The roles require participation in the on call and weekend rotas (7‑day working model currently under review).

The Microbiology service, centralised on one site at the William Harvey Hospital, is well equipped with the latest automation and innovation. You will have an opportunity to grow your career in the Kent and Medway Pathology Network (KMPN). We are developing a network academy, a platform for all network education and training from apprenticeships to advanced clinical and scientific qualifications with a single faculty making best use of our talented educators and trainers. You will not be expected to work at sites outside of EKHUFT; however, there will be opportunities for collaborative working within the network.

  • Oversee the throughput of workflow through the laboratory to ensure time and quality effectiveness, and adherence to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Lead a team of Biomedical Scientists and Assistant Healthcare Scientists, providing day‑to‑day supervision and organisation of section(s) and resources within the department.
  • Teach, train and develop laboratory staff, maintaining an up‑to‑date knowledge and competency.
  • Work independently, use initiative to problem‑solve and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Diagnose, utilising the most current scientific methods.
