Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Bid Manager reporting to the Tendering Manager. The Senior Bid Manager will create and complete bids, estimations and quotations based on customer specifications or requirements in order to achieve both market competitiveness and margin for the company. Integral to the role will be the ability to develop specifications and design solutions with the client throughout the early engagement and bid process stages.
Location: Remote – England, United Kingdom (travel to UK sites required). Please note that we are unable to provide visa support for this position.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Support the Business Development and Country Sales Organisation in the development of client design and specifications.
- Create budget proposals based on your own development of specifications and designs.
- Evaluate client enquiry documentation and interpret their requirements, assessing commercial terms and conditions.
- Formulate competitive bids, estimates and quotations considering the best available product mix and appropriate technical and commercial considerations for each situation.
- Manage the preparation of all technical, financial, cash‑flow and operational delivery aspects of the bid/estimate/quotation, indicating prices and trading conditions.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities in contract agreements across customers and channels.
- Identify potential vendors for equipment and materials required in the project and evaluate supplier offers to match specifications in collaboration with Supply Chain Management.
- Establish and maintain effective customer relationships to understand their needs and provide technical support to Sales Managers during meetings.
- Work across different business streams, cultures and countries. Success depends heavily on your ability to network and build relationships with people from all parts of the organization, UK and overseas.
- Manage and drive your Bid Team to deliver a quality proposal to clients on time and within budget.
- Develop and identify client requirements liaising with internal and external suppliers, with close coordination with Sales, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Planning, Engineering and Commercial functions.
- Assist in the implementation and promotion of all Hitachi policies and procedures for Sales and Tendering.
- Obtain governance approval (risk review) in accordance with Hitachi policies.
- Interface with the client’s team regarding technical requirements, commercial contract administration, quantitative risk analysis, agreement of deviations, assumptions and warranties.
- Provide ongoing support to the customer by chairing meetings, taking ownership and responding to all pre‑ and post‑tender questions, preparing presentations and carrying out contract negotiations.
Your Background
- Proven experience in Bid/Tendering Management, Project Engineering, Business Development and Sales.
- Recognised engineering qualification, minimum HNC.
- Industry expertise in HV (400kV/132kV) and MV (66kV-11kV) with knowledge of industrial data centre, renewables, power quality and sub‑station design.
- Desirable: Experience within the energy sector – Transmission & Distribution.
- Desirable: Experience of contract terms and conditions NEC3/4/FIDIC.
- Desirable: Team leader experience, coaching and developing others.
