Job summary

IBM Confluent is seeking experienced backend engineers to build and operate large-scale, multi-tenant distributed systems in a cloud-native environment. You will help shape architecture and drive end-to-end delivery for real-time data infrastructure such as Kafka-based platforms.

You will mentor peers, implement robust monitoring, and ensure high availability and security across multi-cloud deployments. This role offers opportunities to influence product and operational design in a globally

Qualifications

• Masters degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
• Extensive experience in backend systems in production.
• Strong programming skills in at least one major language.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead the design and implementation of complex backend services in a cloud-native environment.
• Make architecture decisions balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
• Drive projects end to end from requirements through production rollout and operation.
• Improve service reliability by defining SLOs/SLAs and enhancing observability.
• Collaborate across teams to define APIs, data models, and integration points.
• Identify platform productivity improvements and tooling enhancements.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design reviews.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and high technical standards.
