Job summary

Aurora is seeking a Backend Engineer to work with the CTO and engineering team to design and build core backend systems, APIs, and data pipelines that support AI‑driven behavior.

Remote role with frequent trips to London (at least one week per month); you will own features end-to-end, scale production systems, and collaborate with product, curators, and frontend/mobile engineers while maintaining secure, observable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production backend systems.
• Strong Python and Django experience.
• Deep Django/DRF familiarity; avoid common pitfalls.
• Strong SQL; schema design and performance tuning.
• Experience with background job systems (Celery).
• Comfort designing reliable, observable systems.
• Experience with AI infrastructure/LLMs.
• Cloud native on GCP.
• Infrastructure as Code, Terraform.
• Experience operating services in production; ownership mindset.
• Willingness to work in-person near the customer.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services and APIs using Python and Django.
• Own features end-to-end, from design to production rollout.
• Maintain and evolve background processing, agent orchestration, and LLM integrations.
• Work with context-heavy data pipelines and RAG-style systems.
• Operate and improve cloud infrastructure on GCP.
• Improve performance across SQL queries, background jobs, and API endpoints.
• Debug production issues and lead incident resolution.
• Implement secure coding practices and support compliance.
• Collaborate with product, curators, and frontend/mobile engineers.
• Review code and raise the technical bar.
