Overview

Role: Senior Automation Tester Location: Primarily Remote (WFH) with occasional visits to Newport Office (monthly or less). Note: Attendance at the Newport Office is required on Day 1 to collect equipment and complete security training.

About the Role As a Senior Automation Tester, you will play a key role in developing, enhancing, and maintaining systems that support digital services. You will work with cutting-edge cloud technologies, modern delivery methodologies, and innovative projects — including those leveraging AI and machine learning.

You’ll join a multi-disciplinary agile squad, collaborating with skilled professionals to deliver high-quality, enterprise-grade solutions. The role requires a proactive mindset, a passion for continuous learning, and a strong commitment to excellence in software quality.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated UI and API test suites aligned with acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure test data processes are robust, scalable, and reusable, applying DevOps best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with developers to promote unit-level test coverage and shared understanding of the codebase.
  • Build automation frameworks and test solutions from scratch, adhering to IPO’s Test Strategy and Engineering Principles.
  • Identify, record, and manage defects, incidents, risks, and issues in accordance with IPO standards. Contribute to the delivery of small to large-scale, mission-critical programs.
  • Develop and implement toolkits and APIs to support integration, performance, security, and scalability testing. Apply HMG IA technical security controls in alignment with ISO 27001 and the Security Policy Framework.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven contribution to large-scale technical projects.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Familiarity with data models and structured test documentation. Hands-on experience testing front-end and back-end web services.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments. Proficiency with Azure DevOps for CI/CD and test management.
Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency with automation tools and frameworks, including: MS Visual Studio with C#, Selenium, BDD, Reqnrole, MSTest, RestSharp, JavaScript.
  • Experience with non-functional testing tools such as JMeter and Azure Load Test.
  • Working knowledge of GitHub.
  • Solid understanding of architectural principles and design patterns. Competent in writing and executing SQL queries.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience testing Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform.
  • Strong advocate for DevOps principles and practices. ISTQB Foundation Certification (or higher).
  • Familiarity with Docker and Python.
