Senior Auditor - Career Graded

Full-time (37 hours) – Permanent

Grade B2 £31,537 to Grade C2 £41,771 per annum

North Kesteven District Council is seeking a senior auditor, or someone willing to train towards becoming a senior auditor, to join the internal audit team. This post puts you at the heart of promoting and developing good governance and service improvement across all the council’s interests. This is critical in supporting the delivery of the Council’s corporate plans.

Job Requirements:

  • Audit qualification and/or significant relevant experience in internal auditing.
  • The ability to understand and apply the Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Undertake continuing professional development.
  • Demonstrate high standards of performance quality, credibility and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
  • Understanding and assessing the council’s governance structures, risk management and control environments.
  • Supporting the Head of Internal Audit through attendance at audit committees and management of staff.
  • Act as an advocate for the internal audit service, presenting a positive image and a positive outlook to audit work and the profession.

Career Grade, Qualifications and Competencies

B2

  • Deliver internal audit assignments with support and training and provide technical, policy or procedural advice and guidance to colleagues and customers.
  • Promote culture, values and good governance across the organisation, through your audit assignments and advice to clients.
  • Draft final audit service-specific reports, briefings and presentations.
  • Understanding the Global Internal Audit Standards across all work streams.
  • Promote risk management across the organisation.

C1

  • Part II A (or significant internal audit experience).
  • Manage a portfolio of audit assignments and deliver effective, supportive advice and findings to audit clients.
  • Complete relevant audit training and qualifications.
  • Learn and apply data analytics and support the advancement of technical skills to support continuous effective internal auditing.
  • Assess, analyse and interpret both qualitative and quantitative data, identify trends and test solutions to support the resolution of issues.
  • Application of the Global Internal Audit Standards across all work streams.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and senior management to understand the organisation’s risks and issues and to promote good governance and audit knowledge of changes and key risks.
  • Promote risk management across the organisation.
  • Attendance at audit committee.

C2

  • Institute of Internal Auditors (or equivalent significant experience).
  • Understanding and assessing the council’s governance structures, risk management and control environments.
  • Maintain an awareness of specialist development relevant to own area of responsibility and provide professional advice and support to others.
  • Capability to operate effectively and with discretion regarding politically sensitive information and situations e.g. audit committee.
  • Application of the Global Internal Audit Standards across all work streams.
  • Attendance and presenting at audit committee.

You will be required to apply a high level of attention to detail, concentration, and focus when carrying out this role, to support the delivery of the internal audit plan, and show an appreciation of the contribution local government can make to the welfare of the people living, working, and visiting the district.
