Job description

We are working with a well-established UK professional services and accountancy firm with a strong regional presence and access to a wider national network of expertise.

The firm works with a diverse portfolio of clients, from growing privately owned businesses through to larger and more complex organisations, providing audit, accounting, tax and advisory services.

As the business continues to grow, they are looking to appoint an experienced Audit Senior to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious audit professional who enjoys taking ownership of engagements, working closely with clients and developing junior team members, while continuing to build their technical and commercial experience.

The Role

As an Audit Senior, you will take a leading role across a varied portfolio of audit engagements, managing assignments from planning through to completion and sign-off.

You will work closely with clients and the wider audit team, ensuring engagements are delivered efficiently, to a high standard and in line with UK accounting and auditing standards.

The role offers exposure to increasingly complex audit work, including group audits, acquisitions and disposals, restructures, contract accounting, IFRS and overseas subsidiaries.

You will also play an important role in supporting and developing junior members of the team, providing guidance, training and constructive feedback.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead audit engagements from planning through to completion and sign-off.
  • Manage audit budgets, monitor progress and communicate any potential overruns or additional service opportunities.
  • Assess audit risks independently and ensure appropriate audit procedures are designed and completed.
  • Lead planning, progress and completion meetings with the audit team and clients.
  • Review financial statements and ensure they comply with relevant accounting standards and Companies Act requirements.
  • Work on complex areas including group reporting, long-term contract accounting, acquisition accounting, disposals and restructures.
  • Gain exposure to audits involving overseas subsidiaries and IFRS reporting requirements.
  • Understand and apply group and component auditor requirements under ISA 600.
  • Lead first-year audits, developing effective testing approaches based on identified risks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve audit efficiency and quality, including refining testing methodologies.
  • Ensure points-forward are appropriately considered to improve the efficiency and quality of future audits.
  • Manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines effectively.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and respond professionally to challenging or complex feedback.
  • Liaise confidently with colleagues across other departments where required.
  • Supervise, coach and develop junior members of the audit team.
  • Provide timely feedback and identify areas where additional training or support is required.
  • Identify opportunities to add value to clients and contribute to the development of new work.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of audit quality throughout every engagement.
About You

We are looking for an audit professional who is confident taking ownership of engagements and is ready to progress their career within a supportive and forward-thinking practice environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working within an accountancy or professional services practice.
  • Experience leading audit assignments from planning through to completion.
  • A strong understanding of UK accounting and auditing standards.
  • Experience assessing audit risk and developing appropriate testing approaches.
  • Exposure to more complex areas such as acquisitions, disposals, restructures, contract accounting, group audits or IFRS.
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills.
  • Experience supervising, coaching or supporting junior team members.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • A proactive approach to identifying efficiencies and opportunities to add value to clients.
  • The confidence to escalat more complex technical matters when appropriate.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Qualifications

You will ideally be:

  • Studying towards or already holding a recognised accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CA, or
  • Qualified by experience with relevant audit practice experience.
Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a firm where you can gain exposure to a broad and technically interesting client portfolio while continuing to develop your career.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on increasingly complex engagements, take ownership of your own portfolio of work and develop your leadership skills through coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
