JOB BAND: C
CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed-term Contract / Attachment, Full-time until end of March 2026
DEPARTMENT: Nations Business and Operations - Audio Operations (Radio)
LOCATION: Central Square, Cardiff
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £34,900 - £43,750 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Provide technical production expertise within Radio Operations for a wide range of situations, including the most complicated and demanding productions, assuming the overall responsibility for the planning and realisation of high quality sound operations for a production or event in order to realise editorial objectives.

As a Senior Audio Supervisor, you will be at the heart of this production process, responsible for recording actors, musicians and contributors, delivering exceptional sound design, mixing, and technical supervision across a diverse range of drama productions. You will lead on high-profile and technically complex projects, and help shape the creative sound of BBC Audio Drama Wales for new and existing audiences. There will also on occasion be a requirement to work on live studio programmes across Radio Cymru, Radio Wales and network radio.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Design and deliver high-quality audio for radio dramas, podcasts, and digital audio content across all BBC platforms.
  • Collaborate with writers, producers, directors, and composers to develop a distinctive and immersive sound world for each production.
  • Assume responsibility for the entire operation of specialism for a production; guiding teams and deploying resources in the most effective manner.
  • Plan and organise significant technical, staffing and logistical requirements for programmes, series of programmes or events where necessary; source hire equipment and facilities from external providers where required.
  • Work with senior colleagues to plan and account for the costs and resources associated with the delivery of specific programmes or events, providing suitable cost breakdowns where requested.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Operational experience and knowledge of production processes and the technical requirements needed to deliver programmes, sessions and events on the required platforms.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Significant experience as a sound designer, dubbing mixer, or audio supervisor in scripted audio production (radio, podcast, or film/TV drama).
  • Deep understanding of storytelling through sound, with a strong portfolio of drama or narrative‑led work.
  • Expert knowledge of DAWs (e.g., Pro Tools, Sadie, Reaper), plug‑ins, recording equipment, and audio restoration tools.
  • Proven ability to manage complex productions with multiple contributors and tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Industry‑standard safety qualifications
  • Formal qualification in specialism appropriate to the role
