Job description

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been exclusively engaged by a new client, a long established and highly respected services business, that seek to recruit an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their team. The role is offered as a full time, permanent contract to be based at the company headquarters in Newton Abbot.

Working closely alongside a highly experienced Finance Director, this will be a broad and interesting role where the successful candidate can work towards overall control of the operational finance lifecycle of a busy and prosperous business.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Day‑to‑day bookkeeping for a busy accounting function
  • Assume leadership of the accounts payable function, liaising with suppliers, uploading invoices and overseeing supplier payment runs
  • Lead the accounts receivable function, invoicing customers and setting up new customer accounts
  • Management of the credit control function
  • Assist the FD with the production of management accounts
  • Ensure that statutory reporting deadlines are met
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Produce cash flow statements and general forecasts
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register
  • Balance sheet reconciliation
  • Assume a lead role in VAT reporting
  • Posting accruals and prepayments
  • Assist the wider finance team as and when required

For this role we seek a motivated and career driven Assistant Accountant with at least two years of recently gained experience in a similar capacity. Candidates may be part/fully AAT/professionally qualified or suitably qualified through vocational experience. The company is keen to implement digital system improvements so good IT aptitude and excellent MS Excel skills essential. This is a highly visible role that works with an energetic team and liaises with colleagues throughout the business so excellent communication/interpersonal skills required.
