Job description

Morson Edge are working with a leading infrastructure organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Architect to join a major, long-term infrastructure programme in London.

This is an opportunity to work on a multi-billion-pound infrastructure project, supporting the delivery of complex assets across a predominantly engineering-led environment. The role will focus heavily on detailed design, technical assurance, verification and multidisciplinary coordination.

The Role

The Senior Architect will support the Lead Architect as the design client interface with engineering design teams and Design & Build contractors developing major infrastructure assets, including Headhouses, Portals, Bridges and Viaduct structures and other architectural aspects of the line of route.

You will act as a key design guardian, ensuring specifications, requirements and the overall Design Vision are maintained through design development and construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist architectural and technical support across the project.
  • Review and validate design information produced by design suppliers and contractors.
  • Support detailed design, design development and construction activities.
  • Provide technical input to Planning Application packages and conditions closure.
  • Support preparation for Independent Design Review Panel reviews and coordinate responses.
  • Provide technical scope input for procurement and help assess tender returns.
  • Support multidisciplinary coordination across civil engineering, landscape, rail systems, environment, construction logistics and planning.
  • Review architectural detailing, standards and technical information.
  • Support design verification, assurance and approval processes.
  • Manage interfaces between delivery teams to maintain design consistency.
  • Identify and mitigate design risks and support project opportunities.
  • Work closely with discipline leads, area engineers, contractors and professional services consultants.
  • Support and oversee professional services and contractor design teams within a matrix environment.
What You’ll Need
  • Fully qualified and ARB/RIBA registered Architect.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary design and delivery environment.
  • Strong experience in detailed design and technical design development.
  • Good understanding of architectural detailing, standards and design validation.
  • Experience reviewing and checking design information produced by others.
  • Understanding of design assurance and verification processes.
  • Experience working with design information and data control systems.
  • Ability to confidently challenge and influence experienced technical professionals.
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines.
  • Experience within rail, infrastructure or transportation is highly desirable.
  • Aviation or other major infrastructure experience will also be considered.
  • Site/construction experience would be beneficial.
The Environment

The project is approximately 95% engineering-led, so you will need to be comfortable working closely with engineers and other technical disciplines.

You will be working within a large multidisciplinary team, interacting with up to 30 experienced professionals across the project.

The project is currently progressing through scheme design and into detailed design, so familiarity with the full project lifecycle, technical design, verification and construction will be important.

Location & Working Pattern

  • 3 days in the office / 2 days from home
  • Occasional travel to other project locations may be required.
  • Site visits may be required.
What’s on Offer
  • £70,500 per annum + flexible benefits
  • Permanent position on a major multi-billion-pound infrastructure programme.
  • Long-term project with significant future workload.
  • Opportunity to work across detailed design, technical assurance and construction.
  • Exposure to major infrastructure delivery and complex multidisciplinary teams.
