Job summary

Scale AI in the United Kingdom is seeking a Staff Applied AI Engineer for the Global Public Sector team. You will raise the bar for how AI is built, governed, and evaluated across the organization, guiding high-stakes decisions and technical standards.

You will define evaluation methodologies, govern production AI systems, and mentor engineers while engaging with executive clients to shape roadmaps and external representations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering experience with AI/ML in production.
• Experience judging the quality of training data and selecting adaptation methods.
• Experience owning an AI-powered product end to end, including AI behavior.
• Established standards such as evaluation methodologies or MLOps practices.
• Comfort working with executive-level clients and leadership.
• Deep experience with regulated or on-prem AI deployment, including auditability.

Responsibilities

• Define standards for responsible AI, model governance, and production MLOps adopted across the team.
• Build or validate high-risk AI components and set standards for others to follow.
• Architect AI systems to prevent systemic failure and manage severe incidents.
• Develop reusable AI capabilities for engineers and clients to build on.
• Advise on adoption of new AI developments and shape the technical roadmap.
• Act as senior technical partner to client leadership on AI strategy.
• Coach engineers, delegate ownership, and enable teams to deliver safer AI.
• Contribute to recruiting and representing Scale's AI work externally.
