Job summary

Recruit Mint Ltd is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to take technical ownership of ground-to-air communications systems from design through to delivery. You will provide technical leadership across bids and programmes for an established manufacturer of mission-critical equipment in aviation and defence.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with customers and suppliers, and ensure quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant technical field.
• Specialised knowledge of designing VHF/UHF communications, navigation and surveillance systems.
• Proven engineering design experience, including system and turnkey projects, with commercial and budget management.
• Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Ability to communicate across a range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Leading system design efforts with technical descriptions, compliance docs, diagrams and calculations.
• Defining third-party equipment and configurations for proposals and contracts.
• Overseeing system assembly documentation and test reports, implementing corrective actions.
• Maintaining project documentation integrity on SharePoint.

Senior Applications Engineer

Take technical ownership of complex communications systems, from design through to delivery, on products the world relies on.

This is a Senior Applications Engineer role with an established manufacturer, providing technical leadership across bids and programmes.

As a Senior Applications Engineer you will design and develop ground-to-air communications systems and provide technical leadership to bid and programme teams, for an established manufacturer of mission-critical communications equipment for the aviation and defence sectors. You will own the technical story of a system, understanding and communicating what it does, how and why it was designed, the implications of changes and the risks within it, and take overall technical accountability when assigned. Acting as the primary technical point of contact for customers and suppliers, you will also mentor junior engineers and help drive quality and continuous improvement across the business. If you are a senior engineer who wants genuine technical authority over complex, high-stakes systems, this is a role with real depth.

Job Responsibilities

• Leading system design efforts, including technical descriptions, compliance documentation, diagrams, drawings and calculations
• Defining third-party equipment and configurations for proposals and contracts
• Overseeing system assembly documentation and test reports, and implementing corrective actions as needed
• Managing and maintaining project documentation integrity on SharePoint
• Estimating engineering costs and managing document accessibility
• Acting as the primary technical point of contact, maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and customers
• Providing technical support across the organisation, driving technology integration and quality improvements
• Acting as a knowledge resource for colleagues and clients alike
• Working independently with minimal supervision, as a technical authority
• Taking overall technical accountability for a system when assigned as Project Engineer
• Mentoring junior staff, guiding issue resolution and promoting best practice
• Continuously evaluating and adapting to improve technical performance and project outcomes

Skills and Experience

To succeed as a Senior Applications Engineer you will need:

• A degree, or equivalent, in a relevant technical field
• Specialised knowledge of designing VHF and UHF communications, navigation and surveillance systems
• Proven engineering design experience, including system and turnkey projects, with commercial and budget management
• A customer-focused approach with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
• The ability to communicate effectively across a range of internal and external stakeholders
• A proactive approach to planning, able to anticipate challenges and drive long-term project success
• An innovative problem-solver, offering fresh perspectives on conventional solutions
• An analytical, organised and detail-oriented approach
• Good IT proficiency, with familiarity in at least one CAD or drawing software

Pay and Benefits

• A salary of up to £56,000
